Day 15

Shane had an early morning CT, it showed that the blood clot on his right front temporal lobe was still there and it was not getting smaller, so he was prepped for surgery. A small hole was drilled and a tube was placed for draining the blood clot. He is currently out of surgery and the neurosurgeon said it was a piece of cake. He is still in his regular room, not ICU. He is sleeping peacefully at this time. His WBC is also at 7 today. Everything is looking good.

Day 12 & 13

The past few days have been about the same. Shane is rapidly improving and getting strong everyday. He is eating alot more. Hopefully he will start to put some weight on, he's way to skinny(wish I had that problem). Although when I discovered that I had no clean jeans this morning I decided to go through a tote of clothes that have not fit in a long time, I figured breathing was overrated and it was better to wear clean clothes, good news, the skinner jeans zipped right up and breathing resumed. Just wish they were a size 5. Well enough about me, Shane is still on IV antibiotics and will be for 6-8wks to make sure that the infection is dead. Heart surgery is still a must and will most likely be in about 4wks, we need to get as far out of brain surgery as possible. To all our friends and family we are so grateful for everything that you have done and continue to do for us. You have been a blessing, thank you and we love you!!!

Day 11

Today is a day of improvement; Shane went to the cafeteria for breakfast he ate lots, french toast, 2 eggs and ham, and some fruit. He has made lots of laps around the nursing station and walked all the way down to the 1st floor(he's on the 4Th) for his CT. The blood clot on the right front temporal lobe is still there and with heart surgery pending the neurosurgeon has decided he will place a drain or a stint on Monday. He is still being treated with antibiotics, WBC is 16.5. Hopefully we can get 3-4 wks out of brain surgery before he has heart surgery. Currently he is improving

Day 10

So ok I realize that it is really day 11 that this will post but I was just so worn out that it didn't happen yesterday. Shane had an awesome day, he got up and walked more, ate more and is getting stronger every day. He still has many days left in the hospital though the infection still needs to be killed but his WBC are moving in the right direction, down. So later when I get to the hospital I will post on his progress. Love you all, thank you for your love and support.

Day 9

Sorry this is so late, I know that everyone likes morning posts but there really wasn't anything new yet. So here is the newest update; His WBC is 11.5, which is great its means that it is moving in the right direction and means that the antibotics are working. Shane was up this morning making laps around the nurses station he made 3 to be exact. He fed himself breakfast and lunch and is finally eating something besides jello, ice cream and protien shakes. He ate french toast, carrots, potatoes and apple cobbler (no not all togethor). Of course he is still a Peterson so he also ate pleanty of ice cream. He showered and brushed his teeth. His heart will still need some work but the experts have yet to agree what will be best so we are waiting on them. Shane's brain is functioning better for the first time in 9 days he realizes where he is and what has happened to him. It was an emotional day for him as he connected the dots and went through the pictures of his experience. We will hope that he remembers tomorrow.

Day 8

Today is a set back. The infection in his body is still there and his white blood count is still rising it is at 17. His antibiotics have been increased and we are hoping for it to start working he now has an infection specialist doctor. His short term memory also seems to be affected. On the echo cardio there seemed to be some heart damage so today he had a TEE which showed heart valve damage and a murmur so he now also has a cardiothoracic surgeon. His heart will need to be fixed, however he is not a surgical candidate. He is to soon from brain surgery and the infection is also to bad. So what does all this mean, he is really sick and we need to be patient and allow his body to recover. And if anyone has lost count he now has 4 specialist working on his case, he has the best of the best and an amazing support system of family and friends supporting his emotional needs. We love you all and are incredibly grateful for you

Day 7

Shane has made lots of improvement, he has be moved out of the ICU!!!! The cather was removed and the tubes in his head have been removed. His fever is gone but he is still encouraged to do his breathing treatments. He no longer has anymore IV's either. Later today he will take a shower which he will do by himself. The extent of the vision loss in his left eye is still unknown we will have to be patient with his body and see how it recovers. He is currently sleeping peacefully so I won't wake him to take pictures. I will do that later so that everyone can see how amazing he is doing. Thank you to everyone for keeping us in your prayer and thoughts.

Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. - Charles Swindoll

Day 6

Last night was a little rough he did not sleep a lot. He is restless and still in pain, we are focusing on positive reinforcement and encouraging him to do more for himself, we would like to see him get out of bed today, or at least sit up and swing his feet of the edge of the bed. He has had a bath again, and brushed his teeth for the first time since Tuesday, which he did all by himself, good for you honey. We are encouraging him to also eat more otherwise a feeding tube will need to be placed, so bring the treats on. He has developed a fever today, his LT lung in starting to collapse and he is doing breathing treatments (incentive spirometry). We a grateful to family and friend who are always here for us, please know that you are an essential part of the healing team we are so grateful you.

Day 5

Last night was great, he slept 6hrs!!!!! Shane had an early morning CT which showed that his brain in lookin good, blood is gone and waiting for the spinal fluid to circulate. The doctor came in and said that we are done with surgerys, the cath on the top of his head will be removed and he will get a bath. His pain is being managed and he is only a little uncomfortable. The ART line in his hand has been removed. Yeh for baby steps. He is currently sitting up feeding himself his liquid breakfast and watching Dirty Jobs. He is doing amazing. Thank you to everyone who is praying for him and supporting him, it means more than you know.

Day 4 even later

Shane has had a rough day his neck and LT shoulder are sore and tight, mostly from the position during surgery. It is night and we are hoping that he will be able to get some sleep. Thayne and Christine came to visit and Christine gave him a massage which was amazing it gave him a lot of relief, thank you Christine. Thayne administered a blessing for him to have speedy recover and for a good nights rest.

Day 4 a little later

Shane is out of recovery, back in ICU and was in an incredible amount of pain. The nurses were finally able to stabilize him and he is now sleeping comfortably, his vitals are normal. This last surgery did not cause any more damage, he knew who everyone was and where he was and what has happened to him. As for the eye sight that may be improving too, I stood in the corner to take his picture for his scrapbook (hes going to want to remember this) and he saw that I was there because he threw me a sign and no it was not G rated so I will refrain from posting it. But its still good news he knew it was me and he knew it was a camera. Thank you to all of you for all of your love and support

2nd Aneurysm

The nurse just came out and let us know that the 2nd aneurysm has been found and clamped and that Shanes vitals are good and he is doing well. He is such a strong man. Thank you everyone for your prayers. Sorry I fell behind on my postings sometimes a girl just needs a nap.

Day 4

It is 9:00 am and Shane has been taken back for surgery. He received a blessing last night and also was able to receive one this morning. He was anxious to get his surgery over with so that he can start on the road to recovery. Please continue to pray for him. There are many people to thank for your love and support. Thank you to our friends and family for supporting us. So far this has been about Shane but many of you have made sure that me and our children were included in your love and you should know that it is greatly appreciated. Thank you Jenny for providing many things love, support, comfort to Shane and to me and for not letting me run out of coffee. Thank you Roz for everything you have done but also for having the insight to know that I needed to leave the hospital, see the sun and have some lunch, it was a much needed gift. Thank you Klyss for staying to keep Shane company while I left. I knew that he was in good hands. Thank you Nana Debbie and Papa Rog for cleaning up my house and providing support to my children so I was able to remain by Shanes side. Thank you grandma linda for stocking my house with groceries, I don't need to shop for 6 months, what a blessing. Thayne and Christine thank you for everything, he loved his blanket that Hannah made, was grateful for the sound machine that blocked out the noise and Emilys comforting touch. Thayne, thank you for always being here and for providing a rock for Shane to lean on. Grandpa thank you for your spiritual guidance it is always needed, but so much more at a time like this. Cameron, thank you for spending that day with my children they love you, you have a special bond with them, it is wonderful to know that I can be here with Shane because my children are in capable hands. to my neighbors, and friends I love and appreciate you and know that I can call on you at anytime, it is a wonderful comfort.

The Power of Love

Day 3 later

Today was a big day for Shane the tube that was draining the blood clot on the top of his head was pulled out which is awesome because that means the clot is either gone or reduced significantly and is no longer putting pressure on his brain. The sheath in his femoral artery was removed, it was incredibly painful for him but he is a trooper. After 5hrs of sandbagging the artery to make sure that is was sealed he was given a sponge bath. Which he did not enjoy as much as he thought he might!!!! By the end of the night he was sitting up a little and enjoyed his dinner of broth and juice. The results of his MRA were amazing the second aneurysm was easily seen and the surgeon will be able to find it within mm. Tomorrow will be his second surgery please pray for him and send him positive thoughts. To all of you who were here for him today thank you, it does wonders for his attitude it help him remain positive and reminds him that he has a huge loving family who would do anything for him. It gives him that extra push he needs to remain and fight. Thank you we love you!

Day 3

I currently just arrived at the hospital for the night shift, I have rediscovered that sleep and food are optional and reinforced that coffee is not!!!!! Shane is sleeping peacefully, vitals are perfect and there is an amazing calm peaceful feeling in the room. Thank you to all of you who have come to be with him I know that you are a great comfort to him and it is a reminder to him just how much he is loved. The results of his MRA are good the second bleed is not actually bleeding and is not an urgent matter, however due to the probability that it might bleed the doctors are going to go in on Friday and fix it before it can become a problem, and wouldn't you know it there is already a hole in the back of his head for them to go through. Again thank you for your prayers and thoughts we love you.

He recieved a second angio today and there is a second bleed it very small and not urgent, he will be receiving a MRI and MRA in a little bit find excatly where the bleed is and most likely will have a second surgery on Friday. The blood clot on his left front temporal lobe is reducing as hoped. We are so greatful for your love and support.

Are you kidding!!!!

At 2 am on March 16 Shane woke up with a really bad headache which is definitely unusual but he took Tylenol and some IB and went back to bed at 6 am he was throwing up and by 6:30 he had lost his vision, by 6:45 we were at the ER at UVRMC. After a quick CT the bleed in his brain was obvious. We were told that he had a "Brain Aneurysm". Really are you joking I just keep thinking this is got to be a joke but know it wasn't. They rushed him to the cath lab for a angiogram but first his uncle Thayne arrived to give him a blessing and then off to the OR where his head was shaved (but not the beard) and a hole was drilled in his skull to drain off the blood and clamp the bleed. Next there were 2 different shunts placed in his head so that the extra blood could drain off his brain. Then he was wheeled to ICU. Yes there was definitely more that happened this is just the glossy version. Currently he is in a lot of pain but he is stable and the pain is being managed. He has an amazing nursing staff that are doing an excellent job of taking care of him. He still knows who he is and everyone who comes to see him, he knows his children names and what day it is and what has happened to him, but the vision still has not returned. To all of you who were here today to love and support him thank you so much!!! We are so very blessed to have friends and family who will not think twice to stand by you in your time of need. I will try to post regularly to keep everyone informed, please pray for him.

Tandens Arrow of Light

Tonight is March 11 2010 and Tanden received his Weeblos Arrow of Light. We are so proud of you buddy, it took a lot of time and effort for you to get this, awesome job. As his birthday was getting closer we realized that he was missing a few items for completion so we rallied around him and supported him in getting this done. To those of you who helped, you know who you are (Tish and Julie), a special thanks to you I could never have navigated this process without you! Here are just a few of the things that he needed to complete:

He needed to make a blanket, which he did all by him self. This blanket was for his good turn and after he made it, it was taken to the school to be sent to Primary Children. Hum it seems we have some other scouts in the family that are sews also, it must be hereditary. Next we had to go on a boy scout outing that included a hike, so we went to Scofield with the scouts ice fishing and wouldn't you know it, there was a blizzard that morning and for any of you who know me know that I hate driving in the snow but it was a must that we go so buckle up. I didn't know who was going to have a break down first me because of the snow or Shane because of me. Thanks honey for being patient I know that sometime its a lot of work.
